About Christopher

It's nice to meet you. I’m Chris, I am a full-time SEMH and SEND Tutor of English and other related subjects and I am passionate about helping young people thrive in their lives as well as their education. I’ve been working with learners since 2018 and fully qualified to teach students up to GCSE. I’ve yet to work with adult learners but would be happy to help.

About the lesson

My methodology is calm, patient, understanding and encouraging. I have a humanist and constructivist pedagogy based on positive working relationships with students and teachers wanting the same results from lessons. I base my classes on the TEEP cycle as well as what was effective in lessons I have experienced through observation. I believe if students are on board with what they need to know and why - and not just, "you need it for your exam" - it will help with understanding and retention. I try to use questioning to establish where students are at in their understanding and develop their own understanding. I aim to drive lessons towards a piece of work they enjoy doing and feel proud accomplishing as opposed to completing generic worksheets by understanding the students on a human level. I approach each topic by studying and restudying the topic myself first. You can't teach what you don't know. I then try to break it down into the skills needed to understand the topic and succeed in developing the knowledge and ensure skills are there before content. I then look at what schools and exam boards recommend students need to know to achieve the highest marks they can possibly attain.
