About Mark
I prefer a Socratic approach to teaching. Of course, on an elementary level, this approach does not work since students do not possess a basic knowledge of the material. I have developed an online Business English Portfolio which I use to instruct adult students in the basic skills of English grammar and composition. This approach covers topic like the formation of irregular plurals, the formation and use of the subjunctive and indicative tenses, the use of rhetorical questions to introduce a business agenda, the deferential use of pronouns, intonation patterns, reading between the lines, linking verbs, modal verbs and their formation, the TOFEL and a host of other grammatical and cultural topics.
My lessons were composed in Microsoft Word 2010, so a student would have to have a copy of Microsoft Word 2010 or later in order to open the lessons in this portfolio.

I have two degrees: a BA in German from the University of Dallas and an MA in Theology from the Graduate School of Theology at Mount Angel Abbey. I have done studies at nine different graduate schools including the University of Dallas, Marquette, Harvard, Andover-Newton,
Saint John's Seminary and Boston University. I have taught English, Biblical Greek and Hebrew. My masters degree was on the challenges one faces in translating the Hebrew text of the Song of the Sea, a poem in Exodus 15:1b-18.
I taught ESL in an adult school for many years. I also taught adult secondary basic education courses, adult secondary education courses and GED prep courses in the public high schools of California for many years. I also like to work with students taking the CBEST id est California Basic Educational Skills test.
In addition to English, I speak German and some French.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
We work together for a number of weeks already.
I'm quite fluent english speaker, although I'm not native speaker, and I must say that Mark can adjust his study course and align it with student needs.
Mark brought my attention to the things a lack in my english speaking experience. We worked over my intonation, words order and other things that fell off my sight when I was studying english before. We also study grammatical rules (subjunctive usage, etc).
I highly recommend Mark as an English teacher.View more recommendations

I will negotiate the rate for my services based on the student's need. If I have to travel a considerable distance, I have to take that into consideration.
