About Bardia

I am a Sociology and International Relations graduate with a strong interest in helping students understand complex social, political and global issues. I achieved a 2:1 in my BSc Sociology and I am currently completing an MA in International Relations, for which I am predicted to achieve a Distinction.

My academic background has given me a broad understanding of sociological theory, social inequality, politics, international conflict, foreign policy and research methods. Studying both Sociology and International Relations allows me to help students make connections between society, politics, power and contemporary global events.

My MA dissertation examines how Iranian, American and British media outlets construct legitimacy in their coverage of the 2026 Iran war. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, my research explores how language, framing and media narratives influence perceptions of self-defence, aggression, victimhood, responsibility and political legitimacy. This project has strengthened my skills in qualitative research, critical analysis, academic writing and the evaluation of competing perspectives.

In the near future, I hope to pursue a PhD that develops the themes of my dissertation, particularly in relation to Iran, media discourse, political legitimacy and international conflict. My long-term academic ambitions reflect my genuine enthusiasm for research and education.

As a tutor, I aim to use my academic experience to make Sociology and International Relations understandable, relevant and engaging. I can support students with subject knowledge, sociological and international relations theories, essay planning, critical analysis, academic writing, referencing, research methods and dissertation development. I offer both in-person and remote tutoring, adapting each session to the student’s level, learning style and academic goals.

My teaching style is supportive, flexible and centred around the individual needs of each student. I understand that subjects such as Sociology and International Relations can involve complex theories, academic language and competing perspectives, so I aim to explain ideas clearly and relate them to real-world examples.

Rather than simply giving students answers, I encourage them to develop their own understanding and confidence. I use discussion, questioning and practical exercises to help students critically engage with theories, evidence and contemporary issues. I can also support students with essay planning, academic structure, critical analysis, referencing and developing clear arguments.

Each lesson will be adapted to the student’s level, learning style and objectives. This could involve reviewing difficult topics, discussing key thinkers, working through essay questions, analysing academic readings or providing constructive feedback on written work.

For in-person tutoring, I aim to create a relaxed and engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and discussing ideas. For remote sessions, I use video calls, shared documents and screen sharing to make lessons interactive and organised.

My overall aim is to make Sociology and International Relations more understandable, interesting and relevant, while helping students become more independent and confident in their academic work.
