About Cory
My name is Cory! I am a trans man with a passion for textiles, clothing, quilting and sewing as a method of self expression and therapy in general. I am deeply inspired by the work of Margaret MacDonald and Bisa Butler.
My passion for textiles started four years ago when I picked it up as a coping mechanism, and then started reading books to familiarize myself with the craft. What I discovered is this: because of the inherent accessibility and necessity of sewing, every social issue is somehow intertwined with textile work. I am always cognizant of the conversation I am in with a larger sociological body of work when I am sewing. I started doing textile work with the community; teaching free workshops, and starting a sewing club at the local library to try to increase accessibility and build a community around sewing. Now I am doing private lessons in the hopes I can continue to spread this accessibility, and build an income for myself in the process.
I started sewing by creating pants patterns and making different and unique pants, and then later moved on to patchwork, and then later to quilting. Because I am committed to ethicality, I source almost all of my materials secondhand which has given me a scrappy, use-all ability that I carry into my lessons to increase accessibility. My teaching style is fluid, dynamic, and personalized.

My teaching method is a hands on approach, starting with basics, with an emphasis on building fundamental skills that will allow you to carry on sewing well after our lessons; we will pick a project you would like to work on, and I will walk you through it - either from conceptualizing to patterning to construction of a sewn item, or from an existing pattern, depending on your desired skills. Every lesson is individualized, casual, and focused on creativity and self expression! Welcoming of all skill levels, and people from all walks of life.
