About Silvia

Process is my key word! Art & science explorer. :) I’m an artist and educator sharing my creative processes with students of all ages. I’ve mentored university students and put on art workshops at schools and nurseries following EYFS. My teaching method is focused on investigating the best individual journey for my students through critical thinking and making. My online art lessons via Skype are 1+ hours. You don't need to have Skype on your device to join the meeting, I send you a meeting link after a lesson is bought. I use a high end AVerVision M15W visualiser with a 13-megapixel camera with 4K, 60fps imaging during my lessons, which means you can benefit from a clear image* when I'm demonstrating an art technique or interacting with you. (* as long as your internet speed is good.) If you prefer an art session in person*, I tend to bring some art materials with me and we can explore together. I may or may not travel to your area, please check via a message prior booking your lessons. * may not always be available, depending on the Coronavirus conditions. The weekend sessions are charged at +£5 p/h additional rate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Parent's comments: “Silvia also trained Eve in observational drawing which is an important part of the Art Scholarship applications for the 11+ entrance exams. She helped my daughter to record her ideas and processes in a sketchbook and helped her to put together her art portfolio for presentation in Art Scholarships.” “Thanks to Silvia’s tutoring, Eve was invited to participate in four different art assessments which resulted in the offer of one Art Scholarship.” Mariana, London (February 2020) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Something about me: I am a sculptor interested in our relationship with water and natural environments. I find endless inspiration in natural or man-made water filtration systems (water treatment plants, natural and constructed wetlands). I value a development process of a project during which I am normally driven by the physicality and texture of the materials. I call this ‘material thinking’ using steel, paper, clay, found natural and man-made objects, concrete, and other materials. My art is often interactive with educational and environmental elements. I invite people and animals to participate and create collaborative pieces together. I have also been exploring how art and science can work collaboratively and I’ve been lucky to have worked in partnership with organisations and experts such as London Wildlife Trust (charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital's wildlife and wild spaces), Thames21 (London waterways charity), The Hydrocitizenship Project, Water Risk Analyst Dr. Richard Bater, Water Aid Charity, UAL Estates Sustainability Department, and The Government Office for Science. University : - Central Saint Martins, UAL - MA Art and Science [Merit] - Chelsea College of Art and Design, UAL - BA (Hons) Fine Art [Merit] Prizes and Scholarships : Golden Award, Children's Institute, Tokyo, Japan (1994) Final Year Award, University of the Arts London, Chelsea College of Art and Design (2006)
