About Emily
I would love to be a teacher after achieving a degree in English language and literature, as I firmly believe that there is more to English than simply analysing. When writing in English lessons, I felt empowered to discuss my personal beliefs and ideas with regards to a text’s context and inner meanings. I firmly believe that English is a subject in which everyone has a voice to share their opinions. If I am lucky enough to have my own classroom after completing my degree, I would use a fresh, symposium approach to analysis, in which my students engage in frequent discussions towards the texts, and devise their own ideas and interpretations with my guidance and support. Teaching has always been a dream of mine, and I would love to share my passion of this subject with my students.

Hello! My name is Emily and I am currently studying a BA Honours degree in English Language and Literature at university, with an interest to be an English teacher.
With experience from assisting in secondary school English lessons, and running revision workshops/presentations with peers in college, I can provide my students with a comfortable and informative study session that is accessible to all.
Within my tutorials, I will create varying lessons that cater to all different abilities and assist in the development of key skills for answering exam questions, planning essay answers, and creating effective revision resources when revisiting prior knowledge.
As I have just completed my A Level exams in English literature, English language, and drama, I understand how to apply modern ways of teaching and learning, and will provide a fresh approach to studying with my students. Throughout my sessions, I will aim for my students to develop their analytical skills, and assist them with transforming their ideas from initial thoughts to evaluative essays. Alongside this, I will assist my students with effective revision techniques and exam preparation to boost both their confidence and their performance in their GCSE/A Level exams.
My tutorials will consist of guided analysis of the student’s literary texts, and unseen extracts (if their English course includes this), alongside bite-sized independent revision tasks that I shall assign, such as essay plans, and sample analysis paragraphs that we will discuss and feedback on in the following session.
My overall vision for my students is for them to enjoy their learning, make progress, and feel supported with their studies/education. I will strive to create a positive learning environment where each student feels comfortable, and receives a tutorial that suits their abilities, and individual style of learning. In my tutorials, I will listen to my student’s worries and address their potential areas for improvement, and tailor revision sessions that focus on these areas and consist of learning approaches that my student will benefit from.
I have extensive knowledge on the AQA exam board for GCSE English language and literature, and A Level English Language, and the Edexcel exam board for A Level English literature, with the following texts being my in focus:
GCSE:
- Power and Conflict poetry anthology
- A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickins
- An Inspector Calls, J.B. Priestley
- Macbeth, William Shakespeare
A Level:
- Othello, William Shakespeare
- Dr Faustus, Christopher Marlowe
- Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte
- A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini
- Poems of The Decade, collection of modern poetry
- The Less Deceived, Philip Larkin
Whilst I hold a specialty with these texts, my tuition can be accessible to those who are not studying these texts, and I am still able to assist my students with exam structure, text analysis, and contextual research in my sessions, alongside unseen analysis for GCSE English language, and A Level English.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of my information!
