About Lily

Hello - it is lovely to *virtually* meet you! I’m Lily, a recent graduate of Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, where I read History of Art. I also hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. Please get in touch if you think I might be able to help – I’d love to hear more about your aspirations and how I can support you in reaching them.

My Background:
Now living in London, I am originally from York, where I attended a historic day/boarding school in the city from the ages of 3-18. During Sixth Form, I received 5/5 offers from top UK universities (Cambridge, St Andrews, UCL, Exeter, and the Courtauld Institute), as well as a separate unconditional offer from Nottingham and an offer from McGill University in Canada. As such, I am also available for university application support - if this is something that also interests you, do let me know.

My University Experience:
During my History of Art BA at Cambridge, I studied a variety of specialist options, ranging from Imperial Russian & Soviet Art to the visual culture and architecture of the Crusades, and from 18th and 19th century British architecture to the material culture and production of knowledge in the Northern Renaissance. The mandatory papers I studied also include: 'The Making of Art', 'The Meaning of Art & Architecture', 'Aesthetics/Theories of Art', and 'The Display of Art (Curation/Collection Practice & Theory)'. My undergraduate dissertation was awarded a First Class mark and has consequently been held as an 'exemplar' dissertation by the University of Cambridge Department for History of Art and Architecture. During my degree, I was also 'Highly Commended for Innovative Practice' in the Outstanding Student Contribution to Education Awards for my work in founding a series of 'Teach Outs' which provided student-led classes during a period of strike action.

My Tutoring Experience:
Over the past few years, I have supported many students with both personal statement drafting and interview preparation. In addition, I have experience tutoring young people in specific subjects, having worked as a French Classroom Assistant alongside Year 7-9 pupils as well as a 1-1 Harp Instructor on music courses with those aged 8-18. Alongside the above, while at Cambridge, I had the pleasure of working for my college on both 'interview days', supporting applicants staying on campus ahead of these important and nerve-wracking events, and at 'open days', providing applicants with key information and delivering tours. In terms of History of Art and History-related work experience, my writing has been published on multiple occasions, namely two essays which have accompanied exhibitions. I have also worked for both national and international auction houses, including the renowned Christie's, and various private dealers, alongside public museums/galleries.

My Academic Credentials:
University:
- LLM, BPP University (2024 - to date)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law, BPP University (2023 - 2024)
- High 2.1, BA History of Art, Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge (2019 - 2023)

Having significantly benefited from tutoring during school, I can understand the needs of both students and parents alike. Recognising that every student is different, I will always happily tailor my approach to what suits you best.

How I Can Help:
I would be delighted to support you with the following subjects:

- GCSE History;

- A Level History (including coursework support);
- A Level History of Art (including coursework support);
- History and History of Art personal statements/university applications; and
- Undergraduate History of Art (particularly essay and dissertation support - subject selection, edit suggestions, proofreading, word count reduction etc).

What Lessons Look Like:
Lessons are entirely flexible and tailored to your needs, but here are some potential structures:
- Single sessions can be perfect for focused topic revision/recap, or to go through suggestions/edits made for pieces of coursework or dissertations;
- Bundles of sessions work particularly well for students preparing for an upcoming exam over a period of time, or to supervise coursework production and refinement; and
- I am also happy to offer intensive half-day or full-day support if you're working to a tight coursework/dissertation deadline or ahead of an impending assessment.

All sessions can be available online via Zoom or your preferred platform. I am also available in person in London / the surrounding areas (subject to distance and a small travel fee), as I know that for some tutees this is preferred.
 I’m very happy to accommodate afternoons/evenings after school, or weekends, as needed – just let me know what works for you.
