About Alexander

Hello I'm Alexander. I studied at the University of Oxford, where I read Modern and Medieval History. I went to St Paul's School, London, leaving with A* A* A A at A-Level and x11 A*s at iGCSE.

*AS OF SEPTEMBER 2022, I AM CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS.*

**AS IT IS OXBRIDGE ADMISSIONS SEASON, I HAVE PARTICULAR EXPERIENCE WITH THE PROCESS FROM PERSONAL STATEMENTS TO CHOOSING COLLEGES TO THE ENTRANCE EXAMS TO THE FINAL INTERVIEWS. 9 OUT OF MY 10 OXBRIDGE STUDENTS SINCE 2016 HAVE WON PLACES AT EITHER OXFORD OR CAMBRIDGE.**

I've been tutoring over the past 6 years. On this site alone I have amassed over 250 hours of one-on-one tutorials, and have only ever received 5* reviews from clients - this is very rare, and very flattering! I have taught students of mixed abilities and ages, all of whom have noticed an upturn in their performances at school. I am particularly experienced in teaching History, English, Politics, school admissions and mock university interviews, writing personal statements and coursework, and exam study skills.

Outside of tutoring I am an award-winning comedian, with seven Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and shows across the UK and in the USA, Holland and France behind me. I have also written for BBC Radio 4 and The Independent. My debut solo show 'Ringo' was described as "excellent" by Jack Dee and I myself as "a charismatic comic with bags of potential" by The List. My most recent show 'Snare' was one of the Top 40 Shows in The Guardian. In 2014 I founded and now run my own improvisational comedy-theatre company, which runs workshops in schools, universities and access schemes.

A range of my recent tutees includes a boy with issues concentrating for 10+ admissions; a girl seeking a scholarship at a leading independent girls school at 16+; and more than ten Oxbridge History candidates. My two most recent Oxbridge tutees received offers for History from Balliol College Oxford and Corpus Christi College Cambridge. I am very often called in for 'last minute exam revision' with students struggling to knuckle down or remain motivated during exam season, and have developed a number of little tricks and techniques to overcome this. At its height last summer I tutored 21 students-per-week, all of whom were struggling to revise but all of whom performed very strongly their exams come results day.

I'm interested in advertising, and have recently had placements in the creative departments of agencies AMV BBDO and TBWA London. I'm passionate about helping charities - in September 2016 I raised over £1,200 for 'Refugee Action', and over £3,000 for 'Mind'. I'm also a trained drummer and percussionist, and have recorded alongside my father who is a professional musician.

I do prefer to discuss students and timescales with clients before arranging lessons rather than being 'booked cold', so please send me a message to talk about potential tutorials before any booking. (My 'availability' section is occasionally slightly out of sync too, so messaging is the best way of checking. A computer glitch says I take '1 week' to respond which certainly isn't the case!) I endeavour to respond to all messages within a few hours.

Best wishes, and I look forward to hearing from you,

AF
