About Ashley
I am a former college student (and soon-to-be grad student!) with four years of tutoring experience. At Oregon State University I worked in the library's Writing Studio, where I supported students through all stages of the writing process: from brainstorming to research to touching up final drafts. I can help with essays of all kinds, lab reports, resumes, cover letters, emails, and creative projects!
I also spent some time in the publishing industry, where I gained experience proofreading longer, scholarly books. And I even worked for a year at a boutique college consultancy in California, where I helped achievement-oriented high school students with their college application essays.
As a creative writer myself (and an avid essay enthusiast), I understand writing from both sides of the pen. I have some past experience writing marketing and social media copy professionally (my day job is as an Event and Social Media Coordinator at an Oregon bookstore, in fact!), so I also understand the practical application of a variety of writing forms. I'm passionate about helping others refine their writing and share it with others -- I truly believe the world needs more stellar writers!

When I worked as a Writing Consultant, I was trained under a specific pedagogy: we exist to create better writers, not better writing. I hope to bring this philosophy to every session and hope to help students grow as writers. I often engage in a Q&A format where the tools of writing remain in my students' hands: while I may offer feedback and critique, the final product is ultimately left up to the student. I believe in positive reinforcement, not negative.
I'm at my best when working with high school and college essays and personal statements. However, in the past, I've worked on projects like: children's books, thesis chapters, research proposals, resumes, blog posts, and even social media posts!
