About Peter Christian
I have worked as a travel guide for Active Peace Travel. At these bus tours around Germany and Poland, I conveyed the history of World War II and the Cold War to 10th grade students. We visited the Auschwitz, Sachsenhausen and Ravensbrück concentration camps according to the Holocaust. Then we visited the Berlin Wall, checkpoint Charlie, and the Stasi prison in Berlin according to the Cold War. In these lessons I focused both on the practical story behind various events as they occurred, as well as the political idea history that lay the foundation for these events. In my education I undertook a further deep dive in political history of ideas, international relations, surveillance politics, comparative political science and political philosophy. I am now passionate about passing on this knowledge, and giving others the opportunity to expand their intellectual horizons and inform their worldviews.

I start teaching with a strong emphasis on source criticism and communication. I seek trust from my students so that I can build a learning environment where the student (s) feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and creatively about the text, regardless of whether the text is old or modern. The relationship between me and the student (s) is at its best when it is mutually challenging. Then I tend to hear among the students what they have read, seen or heard in the news, both in the present and in the past. Large media events are often interesting and can be the result of several underlying factors that have long boiled. Then I aim to find the course of events: What were the socio-economic and cultural conditions? What groups are they talking about? What are their ideas and how do these ideas conflict with each other? Which theorists or figures are behind these ideas? How have the groups formulated these ideas? How have the ideas been put into practice? Who was punished? Who was rewarded? How did they react and what were the consequences?
