About Chiedza

Having learned English as my second language, I understand the importance of adapting one's teaching to suit different ways of learning. I have tutored and worked with people of varying ages, education levels and walks of life, and am able to adjust accordingly. My experience includes teaching reading and comprehension to students aged 5-13 under the Literacy Leaders programme, all of whom benefited with improved class performance across all essay subjects, increased reading ages and subsequently, higher grades. Through the Science Leaders I have prepared, executed and evaluated classes chemistry lessons for Year 9 students, whilst through Sports Leaders I have worked with teachers and students of numerous primary schools in organising and carrying out a multi-school tournament. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, empathy, organisation and flexibility when it comes to teaching. One audience particularly close to my heart are others who are learning English as their second or even third language, who I have helped gain confidence in academic writing and speaking. My love for writing -from creative work to journalism- has allowed me to become confident and well-practiced in the art and my experience working with others including classmates, relatives, community members and other students has allowed me to help others meet and exceed their potential. I look forward to helping you do the same.

About the lesson

I am a flexible learner who uses different learning methods to properly grasp a concept. As such, my teaching style is one that prioritizes flexibility, I believe it is important to gear your teaching to the student's learning style to ensure they reach their potential.

A lesson with me typically includes a starter activity, usually a quiz regarding the key concepts of the previous lesson of the assessment objectives one needs to know to achieve their academic goal, followed by the main part of the lesson which includes discussing the topic at hand with sources, answering any questions and working on a task together such as writing a persuasive piece of writing or specifically looking at passive and active voice, the lesson is concluded with an evaluation task to ensure the student has understood the subject and answering any further question they may have. Finally, I see a homework task for them to complete before out next lesson.
