About Madeleine

I am a final year student at the University of Birmingham with a strong commitment to global issues, social justice, environmentally sustainable development and human rights. I bring extensive NGO, travel and volunteer experience in the development sector, which has shaped both my worldview and my approach to learning and teaching. My year abroad at the University Complutense in Madrid strengthened my Spanish fluency and enhanced my adaptability, communication skills and cross-cultural skills. I am passionate about education because I believe knowledge empowers students to think critically, engage with the world around them and achieve their full potential. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their abilities, understand complex ideas and approach exams with structure. I have several years of experience supporting students academically through tutoring, mentoring and student representation, as well as professional experience with organisations such as Amnesty International, Praxis and the Gumbi Education Fund.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, engaging and exam-focused, tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. I focus on building confidence, improving essay technique, developing strong analytical skills, mastering exam content and the mark scheme. For History and Politics, I focus on clear essay structure and argument development, using model essays and past-paper practice. For Spanish, I concentrate on fluency, grammar, exam preparation, supported by cultural context from my studies and year abroad in Madrid. Lessons usually last 60 minutes, although longer sessions are available for exam preparation My lessons are suitable for all secondary school years from year 7 through GCSE and A-level. I particularly work with students who seek grade improvement, exam confidence or extension beyond the syllabus. Exams boards I cover: History Edexcel, Politics AQA and any exam board for Spanish. Some of my previous experience: I was a Private English Language Tutor in Madrid - focused on grammar, pronunciation and conversation fluency with two young Spanish students. I was also a Spanish Tutor at Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar school- tutored GCSE Spanish speaking to the younger years - covered all aspects of the syllabus including vocabulary, speaking practice, grammar and fluency.
