About Philippe

My name is Philippe, I'm a graduate and PhD candidate with a long academic history in History, Politics, and International Relations, having even worked at the EU, NATO, and with the United Nations. I offer clear, structured, and supportive tutoring for GCSE and A-level students, with a particular focus on exam preparation, writing, and confidence building skills in academic settings.

My training has come from years at University, where I've studied History and Politics at BA, International Politics at MSc, and International Relations and Diplomacy at an MA level. Now I'm pursuing my PhD in Politics and IR at the University of Surrey, and am an Associate Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University.

I take a professional and reliable approach to tutoring. For me, it is about shared goals and priorities, and lessons are carefully planned and adapted to a student's exam board and level. I aim to create calm and supportive environments for students, where they are able to ask questions and develop their skills.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured to focus on exam success and confidence. I tailor each session to the student's level, the board, and immediate priorities, whether that's to focus on improving marks, preparing for mocks, or building understanding over time.

I focus heavily on technique and skills, helping students to understand what examiners are looking for and how to build skills in forming clear, well-argued answers that will stand them the test of time. Lessons involve breaking down questions, planning responses, and practising timed writing.

In subject teaching, I aim to make complex historical and political ideas clear and manageable, building critical thinking and confidence in expressing their ideas in writing.

Usually I structure my lessons into 60 minutes, allowing enough time for explanation, discussion, and practice. Shorter or longer sessions can be arranged if required. Usually this would include:
- Reviewing key content or areas of problem
- Explanations of concept of themes
- Essay planning or exam question practice
- Targeted feedback

I'm a master's graduate in politics with an MSc, MA, and BA in History and Politics. I'm also currently a PhD candidate in Politics and IR at the University of Surrey, and an associate lecturer. I'm extremely familiar with essay writing and academics to a high standard. Alongside this work, I teach students and tutor, helping all levels improve their work and attain great academic work.

My lessons are best suited for:
- GCSE History and Politics students
- A-Level History and Politics Students
- On average between 14 - 18 years old
- Those preparing for mocks, exams, or resits
- Students aiming to improve their academic skills

I'm also keen to support those who need help in University application preparation, interviews, motivation letter reviews, and items of that nature.
