About Matti
I've spent my academic life studying philosophy, religion, and literature from both the Christian and Islamic worlds. After my undergraduate degree in philosophy, I went on to an MPhil in Islamic Studies and History at Oxford and am now a PhD student in philosophy at the University of Leiden. I've also worked in curriculum development. I spend my time studying Plato (and his receipt by Christianity and Islam) and reading good books, whether they be novels, religious texts, or something else that piques my curiosity. Reading primary source texts and engaging with them through writing is the most important part of my academic work and a core part of my teaching.

I've worked as a tutor for both primary and secondary school students over the last decade. My teaching methods are founded on the core basics--reading, writing, and asking questions. I work to help students engage deeply with texts through both their reading and their writing; asking a good question is as important as finding an answer, if not more! I firmly believe that people of all ages are capable of learning to ask questions more skilfully. I work with primary school students and students who are developing their writing skills at a higher level--that is to say, secondary school and A-level students, as well as undergraduates and adults.
