About Rafael
I am a Swedish-Francophone philosopher, lecturer and writer with a PhD from University College London (in philosophy and psychoanalytic theory). My work has been published widely in academic journals, magazines, and newspapers. I am also working on two separate books together dealing with German and French philosophy, apocalyptic fiction, theology, psychoanalysis, political theory, and religion.
I completed my Bachelor's at Exeter University in 2021 and Master's at UCL in 2022. My interests revolve primarily around philosophy, psychology, and psychoanalysis (particularly: Freudian, Lacanian, and Laplanchean psychoanalysis; Hegel and German Idealism; phenomenology and existentialism; French post-structuralism; developmental and cognitive psychology; and neuroscience). However my interests also extend to political theory, film, literature, history, and theology.

Successful learning consists of experiencing how an object of study defines itself by its relations within an expansive web of knowledge. My approach to teaching therefore involves motivating students to broaden their frame of reference, to understand ideas and topics in depth by exploring texts in detail and eventually knowing precisely how one topic defines itself through other topics. For example, a cognitive psychologist would benefit from exploring his field's relation to Freud's transcription-based psychic model, Hegelian Logic, or Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. My academic experience is in psychoanalysis, philosophy, and psychology. I have also tutored students in English Literature, and have an understanding of syllabus requirements from A Level to University level, including class relations and Marxism, ideology and Freud, and history and religious studies. Thus, whilst my teaching style incorporates the building of a frame of reference for each particular subject, this approach is tailored to the particular demands of each student and of the level of study (whether GCSE, A Level, or University). My lessons would generally be an hour, but this can be discussed and vary. My lessons can be tailored according to age and subject, and pedagogical considerations are adjusted according to the requests of each student (e.g. emphasis on philosophy over psychology, or preferred inclusion of history, politics, religious studies etc.).

I expect initially when I sought out a tutor on psycho/analysis, I would have just a base teacher/expert well informed with the topics
Rafael has not only been, a genuine expert and sublime teacher, but also he has been, a direct, passionate and very caring person, that has sincerely inspired me to the heights of psycho-analysis. Moreover Rachael, has superseded the title teacher and friend, to become my own intellectual
Mentor.
I cannot recommend, Rafael more;
“and then, at the end, he blew up the foundations of myth“ (Tolkien on Wagner)Rafael has been a great tutor for the past year of my undergraduate studies, he has helped me in the departments of philosophy, literature and psychoanalysis. Through his tutoring i have developed a greater knowledge within these studies and have seen a remarkable change in my grades, which were averaging at a 2,2 but now are sustainably at a first. i highly recommend Rafael as a tutor to anyone of any level of these subjects and more, he is very trustworthy and great to work with!
I know Rafael for 6 months. We met at uni and are intellectual colleagues and discussion partners.
Rafael has a convincing style of speaking and arguing. His broad knowledge doesn't lack specificity and accuracy. On contrary, his knowledge goes into detail in nearly every subject he is interested in: from biographical facts to intellectual history up to psychoanalytical clinical and practical problems (besides all the the deep theoretical foundations). His ability to explain theory in a digestible and accessible way is very helpful.
I can recommend Rafael with no doubts at all.I have known Rafael for almost a year whilst studying for a Master's in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis at University College London.
Rafael is very eloquent and precise with his speech, with an exceptionally broad awareness of the philosophical considerations across the Humanities. He also holds a talent for being able to reduce and condense difficult concepts into digestible content for other people who are interested to learn.
As a teacher and college lecturer myself, I pay close attention to not only what people teach but also how and why they choose to teach those particular facets and nuances of the topics covered. Rafael has an excellent way of bringing together ideas in a relevant and strategic way, to ensure that other students are not only able to answer questions relevantly and concisely, but also offer greater academic insight in order to ensure brilliant results.
If you are looking for a tutor in any field within the Humanities and Social Sciences, ensure you contact Rafael.View more recommendations
