Sam is a respected tutor in our community. He is highly recommended for his commitment and the quality of his lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Sam
I qualified as a teacher in 2019. As a trainee and in my first year since graduating, I have worked in a secondary school, a sixth-form college and a prison, teaching students from 16 to adult.
I have taught GCSE and Functional Skills to groups up to 24 and helped them achieve excellent exam results. I have had the pleasure of working with students of all abilities, from students who are still working on the basics, to students who are already confident with English and want to push their abilities even further. I have made group lessons and 1:1 session engaging and relevant to students from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds.
My degree in English Language and Literature covered everything that could come up on an English exam, and I am readily familiar with the Functional Skills, GCSE English curricula, as well as the A-Level English Language Curriculum.

My teaching is results-oriented and evidence based. I use dialogic teaching and guided practice to establish comprehensive understanding of content, followed by study skills sessions to strengthen long-term memory. My methods are informed by cognitive science and the latest educational research, and have enabled students of all abilities in various settings to achieve more than they thought was possible. No matter your previous experience in school and how you feel about English, I can help you to achieve whichever goals you set.
The exact content and structure of the lessons will be informed by you. I will ask you to set concrete goals, which can be an exam grade you want to achieve, a new topic you want to learn, or an academic skill you want to strengthen. I will then organise the lesson to include the content and support you need to achieve these goals.
My strong core teaching methods are supplemented by experience and knowledge of specific barriers to learning. I have worked with students with dyslexia, ASD, anxiety and low motivation and I know how to make lessons and content accessible.
I believe anyone can learn anything. If you hire me as your tutor, I will make it my mission to prove that to you.

Hardworking and honest guy, whose organisation and communication skills mean he’s the best option out there!
Sam is a trustworthy tutor because he will go above and beyond to ensure the success of those around him. His passion to teaching and facilitating learning is admirable
I met Sam when we was doing his PGDE at Liverpool Hope. I can honestly say he is an incredible teacher. It felt like he didn't even need the course because he already had many of the attributes of a great teacher. He is caring, compassionate and a good listener. His communication skills are great and in all the role plays we had to do, he was an expert. If you're looking for someone knowledgeable, enthusiastic and also very empathetic, Sam is the way to go. I'm sure he will do a wonderful job tutoring.
I completed my teacher training course with sam and had the pleasure of watching him teach on a number of occasions. Each time sam taught he was very professional, confident and knowledgable. He adapted each lesson to meet the needs of all his students and made his lessons really engaging which enhanced the learning of his students. I would highly recommend sam an as english teacher.
I worked with Sam while we were both supporting students at a sixth form college in Bristol. I know him to be a passionate and talented educator. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
