Book guitar lessons with expert teachers

Guitar beginners should start with four core areas that create a solid foundation.

• Guitar anatomy: Learn the names of key sections like the body and fretboard.
• Open string names: Memorise E-A-D-G-B-E to understand chord diagrams.
• Left-hand form: Keep the thumb position behind the fretboard while fingers arch over strings.
• Strumming basics: Hold a pick between your index finger and strum across the strings with loose wrist motion.

With strong basics in place, students can learn songs faster.

The 80-20 rule states that 80% of your results comes from 20% of your efforts.

For guitarists, this means identifying high-impact skills like fundamental scales rather than spreading effort thinly.

Examples of high-impact practice:

• Seamless switching between basic shapes like G-C-D or E-A-B
• Steady rhythm patterns using rhythmic exercises
• Understanding scale patterns in a single shape
• Listening skills to play by ear

By applying this principle, beginners advance faster without feeling overwhelmed.
